Leave Your Shame in the Water: A Transformative Baptism Service
This September, we held an impactful baptism service in Cumberland, Maryland, titled “Leave Your Shame in the Water.” It was a powerful reminder that many people, just like Jesus, endure shame. He bravely carried our shame to set us free, and this event was all about providing a space for healing and renewal.
Over 40 individuals responded to our open invitation, welcoming anyone from the community, including those who may not feel comfortable attending church or who struggle with feelings of shame. We broadcast the event over the radio, creating a no-judgment zone to reach those who feel stuck.
Families traveled from all over the county and even from different states to join us in this special occasion. I had the honor and privilege of baptizing several of my coworkers, adding a personal touch to this communal experience. We were also blessed to have Pastor Mickey from Grace Memorial Church join us, working alongside us in the water as we baptized nearly 40 people of all ages.
The weather was absolutely beautiful, and it even caught the attention of the state park staff, with one of them humorously considering joining the baptism themselves!
To God be the glory for all He accomplished during our baptism service! Thank you to the cooks, prayer warriors, givers, volunteers, and musicians who contributed to making this event truly beautiful. Your support and dedication created an inviting atmosphere where people could leave their shame behind and embrace a new life in Christ.
We are excited to continue this journey of faith with our community and look forward to future opportunities to share the love of Jesus!
Blessings,
Christine Atkinson
